After a long preseason the World Cup is finally underway. My computer is in its death throes so I missed posting about the first stop in Calgary. We’ve just finished racing in Park City and have arrived in Lake Placid for the final races of the first half. Here’s how its been going!
We opened up with a 13th place finish in 2man in Calgary, despite some awesome start times from Bryan Barnett, this years new addition to the team, I felt a bit stale having slid in Calgary for almost 6 weeks prior to the race. I made some key driving errors and wasn’t pumped about 13th on my home track. However our 4man had been running really well in training and we turned it around cracking into the top 10 with Tim Randall, James McNaughton and Graeme Rinholm and getting my best ever finish in 4man of 9th place earning ourselves a spot in the ‘draw’ for the next weeks race.
No rest for the weary, we packed up our sleds and gear, had a quick sleep and got up at 5am to head down to Park City for stop number two of the 2013 Viessman World Cup tour.
Happy with the result and despite falling off a sled truck after the race I was excited to see what we could do in the 4man.
This week the selected team was Tim Randall, James McNaughton and Bryan Barnett who absolutely blasted us off the start line with 4th and 5th ranked starts. It was an outrageously close race with us sitting in 10th after the first run and only 17 hundredths of a second out of first! We had a great push and drive for the second run and in such a tight race we lost a spot but gained two giving us another 9th place finish and helping us solidify our spot in the top ten
Until next week, send speedy thoughts to us in Lake Placid, NY!
